Wifeys & Gentlemen,
Last Sunday was my daddy’s 60th birthday! I am so proud to be a little less than 1/2 of his life story and I can’t believe all of the things he’s already accomplished! There is so much left for him to explore and I am stoked for his 2nd act (yes, I expect he’ll live to see 120 or so).
This year, in addition to going in on a gift with my mama, I decided to make my dad his very own 60th birthday song! My dad is a naturally great singer and took time to create original birthday songs for me throughout much of my 20s. I love them all and while I am not NEARLY as talented as he is in this department, I think my “Truth Hurts” remix was as amusing as it was appreciated.
All of this amateur music producing made me think about the magical healing powers of music, especially in the context of relationships.
Sometimes I spend so much time thinking about how to make our romantic relationships better that I often neglect to speak about improving the most important relationship we have; the relationship with ourselves.
Cue the eye rolling now…🙄

I haven’t talked about it much on my blog yet, but I love music and always have. I have a deep deep attachment to my Spotify account, and you’ll be hard pressed to find me without headphones in my ears or a song stuck in my head at any given time. While I’m still working on my own “becomingwifey” ultimate playlist series (yasss), I thought it might be fun to offer up some of my go-to songs for when I’m feeling down about myself or my insecure about my identity.
The path to loving ourselves is rocky, to say the least. A big part of improving that relationship means being more open and honest about our insecurities! They are normal. We all have moments where we don’t like ourselves and we begin to doubt how worthy and amazing we are.
Did you know that music can have a profound impact on your mood?
It’s science, look it up!
Actually…I did it for you already, just click here.
You’re welcome 😉
Sure, it’s normal to have moments of insecurity and self-doubt, but music can be a great way to help you bounce back! Here are 10 songs that help me do that:
1. Soulmate – Lizzo
2. Feeling Myself – Nicki Minaj & Beyonce
3. Shake it Out – Florence & the Machine (not to be confused with Shake it Off by T.Swift, but that’s not a bad choice for this list either)
4. Video – India Arie
5. Titanium – Sia
6. Respect – Aretha Franklin
7. Flawless – Beyonce
8. Feelin’ Good – Michael Buble
9. Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen
10. Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels – Todrick
This is by no means an exhaustive list. I have loads of songs I turn to when I need a boost or a reminder that I am STILL that bitch 💁🏾♀️.
I know you guys have some songs you want to add to this list! Let me know in the comments. Did I nail any of your faves?
Also, small disclaimer: I know this list is predominantly geared toward female empowerment but let me remind you that it’s totally possible to find confidence and inspiration in anything, even if it isn’t 100% your personal perspective. Give the songs a shot, you might surprise yourself!
Also…#TheFutureisFemale so…🤷🏾♀️ 😉
Last but not least, today is my husbands 37th birthday! Instead of trying to write another smash hit single, I sent him and one of his buddies to the 49er game for some much needed testosterone time!
Don’t worry, his cake is in the oven as we speak 😉
Until Next Time,
Carry on Wifeys & Gents,
Love,
Mrs. Renai
🙂 ❤
Be a lamb and tell your friends…
