Wifeys & Gentlemen,
How is everyone doing this week? I was a little bummed to hear that CA would be extending our shelter in place order until early May, but I am trying to make the best of it! Of course, I wasn’t at all surprised and I know it’s ultimately for the greater good. I just really miss doing things that I once took for granted. I miss visiting friends or taking leisurely walks around Target. I miss sending flowers and cookies to people I love. I miss falling sleep on my train commute to the sound of thunder and heavy rain in my earphones. Not to mention, I’m scared I’m going to run out of Netflix and Hulu things to binge after work! π
One of the things I miss most is being able to change up my look; especially my hair. I want braids so badly right now, they are haunting my dreams! If you were to ask the people around me, they’d tell you I am sort of notorious for changing my style at any given moment. When I was a young lass, I wanted to be an actress…so maybe changing my hair and clothing is like getting into a new character? Who knows?
I’ll ask my therapist!
Anyway, I thought it might be fun to offer some of my quick tips on fun, easy ways you can switch up your look; whenever the mood strikes. We all like to change it up from time to time. Maybe you want to reinvent yourself after a bad break up? Maybe you want to spice things up in your current relationship? Or maybe you’re just super bored and want to shock the masses after being cooped up for so long? Either way, here are some of my go-tos:
Change Your Hair ππ»ββοΈ
I can’t live with the same hair style for more than a couple months. I HAVE to change it! Something as simple as trying out a new color or cut can really do something for your confidence.
Do a little research and see what hair colors best match your eyes or skin tone. Figure out what new styles would compliment or highlight the shape of your face.
If you have straight hair, maybe try to do something curly? If you have long hair, maybe it’s time for a big chop? Please, just remember to think carefully before doing something major. Hair grows back with love and time, but it’s always better to be sure you want to change before pulling the trigger.
Try New Accessories π
Do you know how badass I feel when adding something as silly as a cute hat or nose decal to my outfits?
Whether it’s jewelry, hats, jackets, temporary tattoos, glasses or handbags; sometimes those cute little details can make a world of difference.
You don’t have to break the bank to achieve these looks either!
Amazon is one of my FAVORITE resources for finding cheap, funky items to add to my wardrobe. I have items like cat ears, vintage eyeglasses, oversized rings, scarves, hats/turbans, head wraps, large hoop earrings, statement necklaces, and fake septum/lip rings that have totally transformed my look on a given night out.
It’s fun to try out a new look for the night. I swear it makes me feel like a different person.
Sometimes the new look sticks for me! But don’t worry if not. It’s only a few bucks down the drain and an experience for the memory banks! Right?
I could tell you some stories…
Search in Unlikely Places π
I don’t really enjoy shopping for new clothes and only tend to do so when I have a real need (ie: changes in weight, preparing for an event, clothes for a new job). However, when I am in a shopping mood, I like to go into stores that I don’t usually shop in and see if I can find anything different or new that I’d like to try.
I’ve found a deep love and appreciation for tutus using this method.
I am now obsessed with oversized, printed sweaters and thigh high boots as a result of this tip.
Most notably, I have discovered a whole world of cute things one can do with yoga pants and fun leggings just wandering into weird stores I’d never tried!
Walk into a store and see what speaks to you.
I find new clothes are easier to try when I pair them with items I would regularly wear. This way, I don’t feel overwhelmed or anxious that people will think my outfit is “too much”.
BUT….Who gives a crap what people think though? DO YOU! ππΎββοΈ
MakeUp & Skincare π π½ππ§΄
I do not think that anyone NEEDS makeup!
I do not think that makeup is only for women!
I do not think that women/men wear makeup to please other women/men.
Period.
A few years ago, I decided I wanted to learn how to properly apply makeup to my face. I found some Youtubers with skin similar to mine and started experimenting.
While I cannot and will not wear it everyday, when I want to get creative, feel different, and reconnect with my beauty, I put it on! I find the whole process extremely relaxing and revitalizing. I truly love makeup and it’s a passion/hobby of mine I hope to teach my own kids someday.
Remember that good makeup needs good skin. If you haven’t done so already, take some time to invest in good skincare and establish a routine. This includes drinking plenty of water, eating fruits and vegetables, and finding products that work well with your skin type.
Of course, I have my fair share of high end stuff that I LOVE, but a lot of my maintenance products come from my local drugstore. There is good skincare for every wallet.
Wellness π§πΏββοΈ
Going along with skincare, it is also important to invest time in your mental and physical health.
Do you know how much cuter I am when I am getting my exercise, drinking that aforementioned water, and reflecting in my gratitude journal?
Stress, depression, and anxiety can happen to us all. Sadly, it shows in the way we look, the way we behave, and the way we feel.
Taking time for our health and wellness is, by far, the BEST way to make sure your style is always 100% poppin!
Nothing is sexier than high self esteem, confidence, and a healthy glow.
So what do you guys like to do when it’s time to change up your look? Let me know in the comments! Help your fellow readers out!
& just so you all know I’m not lying, please see a few extra photos of some of my various ‘changes’ overtime…
Have a good laugh because I know I am ridiculous!

& I loved these locs!

You guys get the gist! I picked some of my more dramatic ones. I can’t be the only one who does this, right?
Until next time,
Carry on wifeys & gents!
Love,
